April 2022 Newsletter

From The Publisher:
Well folks, it's April and time for yet one more trip around the sun for me. I'll be 63 on April 17th which also happens to be Easter this year. I couldn't be happier than to celebrate my birthday and the resurrection of Jesus, on the same day. Having a birthday during Easter month has always caused me to think about birth and death, both, at the same time. That makes for a rather interesting month. It's good for me, though. A time of soul searching and reflecting. A time to think about what I have done with my life and what I plan to do with the rest of it. April is always a turning point for me; rather like a spring cleaning for my soul. A time to get rid of bad habits and toxic people. I actually did that about a week ago and feel like a new person. I invite you to do the same. While you are doing that spring cleaning for your house, do some spring cleaning for your soul. First step is the hardest but if you'll take it, it will give you the strength to keep moving forward. There is so much power within you to make your life good. You can do it and you deserve it! You are somebody special and you do matter.
What do want out of life? What are you doing to make those things happen? And, do those things match? Those questions stayed posted on my refrigerator, as my children were growing up. When complaints started rolling in that things weren't going their way, I would walk over the poster and point to it. That would lead to a productive discussion about changes that needed to be made. We all get down in the sink hole of life from time to time and just need to remind ourselves that we do have the power to change our lives and sometimes, just need to formulate a new plan.
Please be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of this newsletter. I have shared a very special story of something that happened to me when I was 10 years old. I hope it will make you smile or enlighten you, which ever you need. I pray it will be a blessing to somebody, somewhere.
May God bless you all and HAPPY EASTER!

Local Hospitals & ERs Become Part Of The HCA Florida Network: By Lori Leath Smith, Publisher - Life Media, Inc. community newspapers.
On this particular day, Olivia and her father were moving her to college—an exciting time in Olivia’s life. They were on their way when a terrible car accident abruptly stopped their plans—leaving both father and daughter in critical condition and Olivia on the brink of death. Both were air-flighted to then Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Olivia at one point evenlosing her pulse. Hospital staff quickly went to work. Due to the numerous caring doctors’, nurses’ and practitioners’ diligence, “both Olivia and her father’s lives were saved,” said ZachMcCluskey, CEO, HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. “But it took more people than are sitting in this auditorium today to make sure that was possible,” he said at a recent Chamber breakfast with roughly 400 in attendance. “After many months, we were able to return Oliviaand her Father back to their lives. This is what makes it all worth it; this is our mission,” Zach stated emotionally, as he conveyed the hospital’s mission is to truly care for each life in our community.
Locally, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Twin Cities Hospital, Destin ER and Navarre ER were four of more than 450 HCA Florida Healthcare affiliated sites of care across the state that united recently under a new, statewide, shared brand—HCA Florida Healthcare—and have become HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital, HCA Florida Destin Emergency and HCA Florida Navarre Emergency.
HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital has served the community for nearly 50 years. In the past five years, this hospital and other connected care sites have served more than 740,000 patients and invested in the community through the expansion of needed healthcare services, including the addition of freestanding ERs in Destin and Navarre; a 10-bed expansion to the only acute inpatient care rehab facility in Northwest Florida; an expansion of its main emergency room and addition of a roof-top emergency flight helipad; a new parking garage and a multi-phase project that encompasses building a new two-story patient tower with the capability of expanding vertically to four floors, bringing total capacity to 309 beds.
It is a 267-bed full-service hospital and is the only Level II Trauma Center in the Tri-County Area, with over 300 physicians. For women and children services, it has 24/7 neonatologists available and is the area’s only Level II NICU. Its expanded emergency services include a dedicated Pediatric ER, 24/7 HCA Florida Destin Emergency, 24/7 HCA Florida Navarre Emergency, and full-service 24/7 HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Emergency. It is the only acute care hospital in the Tri-County area that offers open heart surgery, an Accredited Advanced Primary Stroke Center, an Accredited Chest Pain Center, and a Cancer Care Center that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer and an Associate of the UAB Birmingham Health System Cancer Community Network. HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital also has the only inpatient acute care rehab facility in the tri-county area – The Rehabilitation Institute of Northwest Florida, located in Destin.
Zach said he’s very excited about being a part of the new HCA Florida Healthcare network. Our local hospitals and ER’s will now collaboratively be connected with approximately 11,000 staff physicians, 77,000 colleagues, 49 hospitals, more than 350 physician practices and freestanding emergency rooms and more than 50 urgent care centers throughout the state. Zach said last year, the state network saw more than 6.4 million patient encounters and represented over one quarter of the healthcare encounters across the country. “Because it’s now more connected than it’s ever been,” said Zach, “through this comprehensive network, HCA Florida Healthcare can offer the utmost quality and personal attention to its patients, expand access to care, address the ongoing nursing shortage, respond better during times of disaster, advance diversity in healthcare and fund and collaborate with non-profit organizations to address high- priority community needs.” With one baby born every 17 minutes at an HCA Florida Healthcare hospital and trauma outcomes better than the national average throughout the state, patients and families can continue to expect the same quality care from physicians and nurses, with no changes to facility hours of operation or phone numbers.
HCA Florida Healthcare aims to make it simpler and easier for patients by: making it easier to understand where to receive care; providing a unified website that brings hospitals and physician practices together offering personalized content, advanced geolocation and improved physician search functionality; standardizing uniforms by role to make it easier to understand physician and colleague responsibilities and functions; and introducing new statewide services that will improve access to care, including a new statewide Consult-a-Nurse phone number. This free and easy service will answer questions and provide guidance about their health issues. The number is scheduled to be activated in April, and to be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Destinite Spotlight - Tylor Kendall, Owner: Foundations 850, Inc.: By Author, Patricia Lee
Meet local, Tylor Kendall. He has started an innovative youth athletic sports training and coaching program. My daughter was in sports her entire life, so I am one who understands the importance of good training and coaching. Read the article below, as Tylor gives you some insight to his program.
"Today's athletic culture has become so competitive with the increasing numbers of athletes and advanced training techniques along with and unlimited amount of information shared across the internet. Youth athletes are no different today in dreaming of making it to the pros or the big leagues just as we did and our parents did before us. As a fellow parent I believe it is our responsibility to foster and promote such dreams and also incorporate a work ethic that will propel our children into the direction of their goals. It is a very small percentage of Youth athletes that make it to a professional level at their respected sport. Nonetheless they all will become adults.
Foundations 850 was created with a vision of empowering our youth to navigate through the obstacles of their dreams. And doing so we would need to create a channel of development for today's student athlete. At this point that would include developmental training on sports specific or overall athletic improvement through individual or small group training. This would build hope and building relationships that would promote positive encouragement and avenues for mentorship beyond sports.
Servant-Leadership is a philosophy where the leader's main goal is to serve. That's our approach when given the trust and opportunity to help shape the future leaders of tomorrow. Our methods are tailored to promote individual success and significance in team sports....and life. We are Players First Coaches. With positive intent, we want to push student athletes to become better versions of themselves all while learning to "Love the Grind" and "Trust the Process".
At this point in our Initial Development Stage, we provide private individual and small-group training. Workouts will be tailored to the needs and goals of the athletes. More services will be adding soon. We have huge dreams ourselves!
Sports are the highway to getting youth to travel towards principles and traits that run parallel with significance, success, and prosperity- all which we desire for our children to achieve.
If given the opportunity, we will trick your student athlete into enjoying hard work by pushing them in a controlled competitive environment and brainwashing them into believing in themselves!"

How To Remodel A Bathroom On A Budget: By Paul McArthur - Owner: Agape Home Pro
The bathroom... It’s more than just a place to house the potty! It can also be your own personal spa. Our bathrooms serve as an oasis and sanctuary within our homes. Remodeling a bathroom is a great way to add value to your home on both a personal and financial level. Bathroom remodels, or refreshes, are one of the most common homeowner calls we get. If you’re hoping to spruce up your bathroom, you might assume it would be a lofty investment. You’d assume right! But there are plenty of ways to pull off a renovation with modest funds. Let’s explore some different ways to remodel your bathroom on a budget. On average, a bathroom remodel can cost anywhere from $10,500 to #26,000 according to Remodeling Magazine. This will, of course, vary depending on how upscale the project will be. You might take one look at those numbers and run in the opposite direction, but what if we told you that there’s a way to reduce remodeling costs down to $3000 or even $1000 dollars? There are plenty of methods you can use to cut down on costs when remodeling a bathroom.
First, determine what you can spend on this project. Anywhere in the $1000 - $3000 price range should be sufficient. If you can’t afford to reach that $1000 mark, it might be best to stick with minor cosmetic updates. If you have a little more to play with, you can make larger, more structural changes such as replacing the bathtub or floor tiles.
PAINT: One of the easiest ways to breathe new life into a room is to give it a fresh paint job. This also happens to be one of the cheapest methods to remodel on a budget. Painting your bathroom is totally DIY friendly! But… Be cautious when buying paint for a bathroom; it needs to be of high quality and possibly complete with a satin finish to prevent mold and mildew.
TILE: Tiles can be a little pricier. If you want to keep prices down, focus on replacing tiles in high-impact areas such as the floor. You can also use special paint to give bathroom tiles a stunning new look. If you really have your heart set on an expensive tile, use it as an accent piece and fill in the rest with cheaper tiles. Or, look at more affordable waterproof luxury vinyl plank (LVP);
TUB & SHOWER: Nothing can make your bathroom look more hideous than aging caulk. It isn’t hard to apply the caulk yourself, but you still need to get it right and it takes practice to make it look like a pro did it. Scrape all of the old gross stuff out – carefully – and recaulk it all. Give priority to the areas around your shower stall, between the tub and its tile surrounding, and around the sink. While you’re at it, upgrade your shower head and shower valve trim kit. Viola… you have a shower that looks new again!
VANITY AREA: Quickly switch up the look of your entire bathroom with this one piece. With various styles and designs, you can find the one that matches your aesthetic and needs. Vanities also allow you to mix and match sink styles, and base and countertop materials to find the perfect fit. If you want a uniform space, match the vanity base color with other pieces in the room for a cohesive look. For a bold approach, find a colorful vanity base or a unique sink. HINT… Home Depot and Lowes regularly have vanities on sale! Putting in a new vanity is also the best time to change up your faucet for a whole new look. And, don’t forget to change your hot and cold water supply lines underneath the sink. Did you know those lines should be replaced about every five years?
POTTY: When contemplating how to spruce up your porcelain throne, consider keeping the base and replacing the seat and lid instead. You can also add an inexpensive bidet to add a touch of luxury without breaking the bank.
Final Touches: There are a variety of other little adjustments you can make to remodel your bathroom on a budget. Don’t neglect the details! Drawer hardware, lighting fixtures, the sink faucet, and towel racks are all relatively inexpensive swaps that can completely shift the look and feel of your bathroom space.
GET HELP FROM EXPERTS: While a bathroom makeover is totally doable for many folks. Don’t be shy about asking for help. Bathroom remodels can be a lot of hard work. And folks who do a lot of bathroom makeovers will have some great ideas you may have never thought of!

Christian Corner: by Patricia Lee
John 3:16"For God so loved the world that He gave His One and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." I would like to share with you a little story about something that happened to me when I was 10 years old (1969). My parents took me to church one night when the church was having a revival and there was a guest preacher delivering the sermon. He sternly focused on giving your life over to the Lord and the importance of it which actually grabbed my 10 year old attention. I carried those words home with me and that night when I was in bed I started to think a lot about the meaning of it all. It wasn't the first time I had heard a preacher talk about giving your life to the Lord but this man had the magic words that really reached my soul. I remember looking out my window at the stars and I started to pray. I just told the Lord how much I loved Him and asked Him to please let me be with Him whenever I died and asked if He would please write down my name in the Lambs book of life. In that moment, as I was still looking up at the stars, I felt my soul leave my body and fly up to Heaven. It was a strong, undeniable feeling that took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting anything special to happen when I started my prayer. I just simply wanted to pray. I was so excited that I ran into my parents room and woke them up to tell them what happened. I remember my Daddy saying, "Are you sure you weren't dreaming?" I said, "No, Daddy! I haven't been asleep. I've been thinking about what the preacher said and then I prayed and then, God just took my soul right out of my body! I will be with Him forever!" Folks, I used to wonder why it didn't happen this way for everybody. But, as I got older, it became clear to me why Father God gave me that experience. He knew the tough times I had ahead and He knew I needed something to sustain me, so that I would never doubt His existence. Just like always, the good Lord gives us what we need. If you don't know Him, I invite you to take time to learn because He certainly does love you and wants you too, to be with Him, always.

He knew the tough times I had ahead and He knew I needed something to sustain me, so that I would never doubt His existence. Just like always, the good Lord gives us what we need. If you don't know Him, I invite you to take time to learn because He certainly does love you and wants you too, to be with Him, always.
