Crisis Aid For Littles and Moms - C.A.L.M. Organization, Inc.
This is a rather unique place which I had never heard of before and I was so impressed that I felt the need to help spread the word. I was founder/president of a nonprofit for 10 years myself, and know first hand how important it is to have others help promote your cause. I hope this helps.
Their mission statement is, "We are C.A.L.M. Organization, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization. CALM offers transitional housing and life skills training to mothers and their children in crisis situations."
Their website address is nicevillecalm.com.
The quoted info below is directly from their website:
"In 2013, our founders Grace Nuffer and Terri Steadman were serving single moms in a local church life group. They quickly realized the need for a program to assist moms from poverty to self sustainment. Our 501c3 was established in 2016 and we continued to serve from our own homes. In 2017, we were blessed with our current property from a donor. We hope to continue to develop our program by providing more transitional housing for moms and children in crisis through Calm Village. We've grown leaps and bounds. We have helped many families (36 moms and 49 kids), all thanks to the helping hands like yours of this amazing community!"
Ways to Volunteer:
Volunteer To Be An Advocate:
"Our residents are always in need of people who are able to drive them to doctors appointments or to helpful resources (such as housing authority or wic office). Invite them to go to church with you. This is a great way to engage with them and pour into them on another level."
Volunteer To Babysit:
"We are in need of babysitters in the afternoons and during days off from school. Our residents work as much as possible and are required to attend life skills classes on M,T,W afternoons. If you have a love of children and want to volunteer please fill out the application below. You must complete a background check prior to working."
About CALM Village:
"Calm Village is the future for the CALM Organization and the next step for our residents.
We have struggled in the past to get housing for our graduates. We have recognized the lack of affordable housing in our community, because of this we have decided to take a leap of faith and are pursuing building up to seven cottages on our property.
Each cottage has two bedrooms, kitchen/living room combo and stackable washer and dryer. It will assist our residents to achieve self sufficiency and independent living. This will allow us to serve more people in different ways. We have made big moves to start the long process of making this dream a reality."
There is a volunteer application directly on the website, so please help out if you can. If you would like to donate, use this address. Also, you can go to the website to view a list of items of which they are in need:

Destin Has New Mayor - Bobby Wagner:
Story shared by Lori Leath Smith, Publisher - Life Media, Inc. Destin Life community newspaper
On November 8th, Bobby Wagner, 28, won the Mayoral Election for Destin. This makes him among the youngest mayors to ever serve in Florida. “I want to say thank you to everybody who made this campaign successful–my family, friends and community who have supported me and this vision for the future of Destin,” Bobby said.
Having lived in Destin since 6th grade, Bobby’s background is in business, environmental non-profit, and he served one year on the Destin City Council. “This win represents the next generation of local government that prioritizes projects over politics,” he said.
His mayoral campaign was a donation-funded grassroots campaign that took a hands-on approach, utilizing community workshops in order to understand the needs of the citizens of Destin. “My number one priority is this community’s concerns, goals, and aspirations as we move Destin into the future. We will never be political, but always about the projects. Getting them started, funded, and completed for us, the community of Destin.”
Bobby ran on the platform “Revive, Reclaim, Sustain.” His campaign focused on strategic green development and revitalization, the reclamation of beaches and natural spaces, and the sustaining of Destin’s natural environment. “It’s time to revive Destin. These waterways are our heritage, and it is up to us to protect them. Together we will protect and preserve not only the waterways but our heritage, businesses, and this unique place of paradise that we get to call home,” he said.
Bobby won in the majority Republican Okaloosa County while running on an independent platform that put “projects over politics.”
Okaloosa County Political Breakdown:
Democratic: 8,831(19.18%)
Republican: 29,979 (65.10%)
No Party Affiliation: 6,554 (14.23%)
Other: 685 (1.49%)
Moving forward, Bobby will continue to establish a strong vision for Destin that holds values of community, family and local identity at its core. He hopes to unite the council and proceed with projects that will serve the 13,000 residents of Destin as well as the 4 million visitors it receives each year. The City of Destin operates under a council-manager form of government with seven at-large elected councilors and a mayor.

A Date With Disney: By Jessica Fricke, Associate: Travelmation
Many of us have amazing memories of Walt Disney World as a child. Rides, ice cream, and Mickey! It was so easy, right? While the magic is still there, unfortunately, for most of us, the “easy” part is no longer. A trip to the Orlando theme parks now requires a massive amount of planning for most families. Let’s go over a few tips and tricks to help make the most of your “magical” vacation:
· BOOK EARLY! This is of upmost importance in regard to affordability. Walt Disney World runs a lot of specials on room only packages or room/theme park ticket packages throughout the year- Florida resident, Annual Passholder, Military, Disney Visa Cardholder, Disney + deals and more. Book early to get the best rates! If prices go down, you can have your package adjusted. The closer you get to your vacation, the fewer room choices you will have and the higher the prices will be. Book early!
· Check with your Travel Agent to make sure that you are taking advantage of any and ALL discounts that may be available to you! As noted above, Walt Disney World tends to run many promotions throughout the year- use them.
· Make theme park reservations. Since the pandemic, Walt Disney World has been requiring guests to not only purchase theme park tickets but to also make park reservations for the park/day they plan to visit. You should do this as soon as you have your tickets! Missing this crucial step may mean that you are left outside the gates on your theme park day(s).
· Make dining reservations! While the theme parks and resorts have many quick-service options, most guests like at least a few sit-down meals during their stay. Dining with the princesses? Yes, please! You can make dining reservations 60 days before your visit. If you (or your children) have your heart set on a particular meal, make sure to make reservations at 60 days. They will be booked! The days of walking up to a sit-down restaurant and getting a table are gone at Walt Disney World, unfortunately.
· Make reservations for “enchanting extras.” Special activities and experiences such as Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (princess or knight make-overs), VIP firework experiences, droid or light saber building, behind the scenes tours, and more can also be booked at 60 days before your trip. As with dining reservations, most of these activities book up fully and fast – do not miss your 60-day mark!
· Know your options for Genie +. Many of us remember the days of Fast Passes, but Walt Disney World now uses Genie +. This option is only available for purchase after midnight on the day of your visit. It allows guests to make ride reservations from their phone and then utilize the Lightening Lane entrance at the ride to by-pass any standby lines.
And the most important tip of all – enjoy your trip to the most magical place on Earth!

Check Yourself: 6 Home Maintenance Tasks You Should Tackle in February
By Paul McArthur - Owner: Agape Home Pro
Spring might be around the corner, but February can still bring plenty of nasty or cold winter weather. Some of the harshest of the season, in fact. So that makes this month the perfect time to knock out some more of those indoor tasks to get your home ready for warmer times.
“I’ve been doing indoor tasks for three months now! OH MY GOSH, please let me out!” you’re no doubt crying. Have patience, young grasshopper—we’re almost there.
But first you must prepare your home for spring by thinking “fresh.”
A fresh house can help combat the cabin fever that can overwhelm you until summer is back.
So how do you get fresh? I’m glad you asked!
I’ve created a handy checklist of home maintenance tasks to give your home a lift in February. And if you’re struggling to muster up the energy to tackle these chores, we’ve provided tips for how to do them faster and easier—or simply get the help of a pro.
Check these to-do items off your list, then sit back and relax for the last few weeks of winter.
1. Spiff up the paint
Task: Freshen indoor paint on walls, cabinets, doors, and trim.
Shortcuts: Sometimes a once-over with a Magic Eraser sponge will remove marks and smudges, reducing the need for a paint job. If that won’t cut it—and you need to paint indoors in February—stir some scented paint additive into the paint can to make the smell less noxious; plenty of vendors make this: Glade, PPG, etc. Keep in mind that the smell only lasts weeks or a few months.
2. Give the laundry room a redo
Task: Clean and reorganize your laundry room so it’s roomier and more efficient. Scrape dried-on laundry detergent from ridges in your washer, replace damaged sorting bins, throw away laundry products you never use, and store the rest in out-of-reach places to protect young ones.
Shortcuts: Take advantage of every square inch of laundry room space. If you don’t have room for a drying rack, extend a curtain rod over your machines to hang delicate clothes, and insert a “slim cart” between your washer and dryer to hold cleaning supplies. Also, try storing bins, buckets, and laundry bags on wall hooks to free up space. Or have some cabinets installed over your washer and dryer.
3. Clean out dryer vents
Task: Clean the duct that connects the back of your dryer to outside vents. If you don’t, lint and other debris could decrease your dryer’s efficiency, increase energy bills, and even cause fires. Also, make sure birds and other animals haven’t made a home in your warm and toasty vent.
Shortcuts: Twice a year, use a leaf blower to remove lint and debris from ducts. Also, cover the outside vents with a fine mesh screen so birds and bugs don’t nest in ducts.
4. Clean refrigerator coils
Task: To keep your refrigerator in tiptop shape and save energy, clean the refrigerator condenser coils located in the back or on the bottom of the appliance.
Shortcuts: Use a vacuum to clean coils (just make sure to pop on the upholstery attachment first). While you’re at it, vacuum the floor under and behind the fridge, too. Then, shove a duster or refrigerator coil brush (about $5 and designed for this exact purpose) between the coils, and clean the rest of the dust, hair, and dirt still clinging to the coils.
5. Give your mattress some love
Task: Vacuum box springs and the mattress top and bottom. Rotate or flip the mattress.
Shortcuts: If you have a one-sided mattress—one side is padded; the other isn’t—don’t bother flipping; just rotate it to provide even aging. If you have a two-sided mattress, flip every two months to prevent sags.
6. Look for leaks
Task: Inspect your roof for missing shingles and damaged vent boots, and check your foundations for cracks that can cause big problems when spring rains pour on your home.
Shortcut: Wait until it rains, then climb into your attic to look for leaks. It’s easier to spot water leaks during a storm. These leaks can go unnoticed for months, causing damage to insulation and creating an opportunity for mold to grow.
And, of course, if you need any help with your January projects, be sure to check out the Destinites Local Directory at https://www.destinites.com/local-directory.html. With local businesses from AC contractors to handyman companies (hint-hint), you’ll find all sorts of resources at your fingertips!
Praying for blessings on your homes and family, this month and always!

1 Peter 3:3 The Living Bible: "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelry, or beautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit which is so precious to God."
It is not uncommon for us to look at our outward imperfections and be disgruntled by them. It is human nature to do so. However, we need to remind ourselves that what is on the inside is more important. It is "who" we are that matters not only to Father God but also to others. Your words or acts of kindness can change a person's entire world or even keep someone from suicide. Next time you are looking in a mirror finding yourself upset over your imperfections, stop and think about who you are on the inside. Are you proud of that person or do you need some character adjustment? If so, then get 'er done! That is the most important investment you can make in yourself. Strive every single day to be a kind human being who positively contributes to the world. Think about it. How do you want to be remembered?
