A Note From The Publisher
A few months ago, I had to move in with my parents to help my Mother and daughter with my Daddy who has Alzheimer's/Dementia. The first thing I would like to say is that this is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, either to have the disease itself, nor to be a caregiver. It is a scary and heartbreaking nightmare for all concerned. I do feel it is an honor and privilege to help take care of the man who took care of and provided for me but yes, it is difficult. I am having to learn how to forgive myself and not feel guilty during times of feeling tired and frustrated. I am having to realize I am human and not a robot and that Father God understands it all. He understands that my Daddy's family loves him and that we are all trying diligently to help Daddy have the best life he can with what he has left.
Books can make suggestions to help the family caregivers and others can give personal advice, but every situation is unique, too. What works for one does not work for all. It's a lot of trial and error. Even the doctors are constantly having to change medications for the patient. Everything is an ongoing adjustment. Every family could end up writing their own book about it, in the end. So, if you know someone going through it, please do not judge them. This is one of those things that you just cannot know what you would do until you are faced with it. Some patients can be sweet and childlike, but others can also be mean and belligerent. We are experiencing both, as mahy do.
For me, watching this manly man reduced to this childlike behavior is almost more than I can bear. To hear him be belligerent, use foul language, accuse loved ones of plotting against him or stealing from him, is also difficult to bear. My Daddy will be 88 this month and his best friend is someone he has known since elementary school. To watch as Daddy packs his clothes in a pillowcase (using a belt to tie it together) because he thinks his best friend is coming to pick him up for a sleepover will do nothing short of rip your heart out. This whole situation is like pulling a Band-Aid off one hair at a time. We do have moments of smiling and laughter, but it truly is more like the longest grieving process you've ever been through in your life. It's one of the cruelest things a family can ever have happen. So, this Thanksgiving, take a moment to be grateful and appreciative for all of your loved ones who are still around you and of their right mind. Realize those times are precious and special. I had no idea last year that it would be our last holiday time with my Daddy and all of us together as the normal family we have always been. It will never be the same for us again, but God is my strength, and He will bring us comfort. We will be happy again in a new way. We will appreciate life overall in a different way with a new type of understanding. If I am looking for the good, I would say that it all has caused us as a family to lean on each other and become closer. It will also teach you about faith and God's timing. It is for my trust and belief and not to question. Truly, we all could not be in better hands. I give all suffering to God and to God be the glory for all! I, for one, am willing and blessed to be his vasal. Always.

Okaloosa County Celebrates its Military Heros in 75th Air Force Anniversary:
Story shared by Lori Leath Smith, Publisher - Life Media, Inc. Destin Life community newspaper
Written by: Doug Stauffer
Okaloosa County recently gathered together to celebrate the military, first with the U.S. Air Force’s 75th Anniversary celebration, followed the next day with a salute to several veterans inducted into the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame at the Northwest Florida State College Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. The Hall of Fame event took place at Magnolia Grill in Fort Walton Beach.
Eglin Federal Credit Union and the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted both events. Boeing and Northwest Florida State College also sponsored the 75th-anniversary celebration.
Nine panelists discussed the role played by the Air Force during major events in U.S. military history. Topics featured many first-hand accounts from people involved in training for the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, Operation Desert Storm, the Iran Hostage Rescue Mission, Osama bin Laden Raid, Vietnam War, Korean War, Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan and more.
The celebration included several special guests, including SEAC Ramón “CZ” Colón-López, the senior enlisted adviser to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Retired Capt. Dale Dy, a decorated Vietnam War Marine. Dye is the founder and head of Warriors, Inc., a technical advisory company specializing in portraying realistic military action in Hollywood films. He has offered his expertise to television shows such as the HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.”
Ted Corcoran, president and CEO of the Greater FWB Chamber, stated, “It’s just amazing that our neighbors and friends were involved in these crucial military operations throughout the world.” Corcoran pointed out that the Air Force, and the military as a whole, are loved in Okaloosa County.
The panelists included: Cindy Cole Chal, Col. Howard Hill, Col. Larry Ropka, Col. Bill Keeler, Chief Master Sergeant Bill Walter, Lt. Col. Kirby Locklear, Lt. Col. Corby Martin, Col. Allison Black and L. Gen. Marshall “Brad” Webb. The riveting stories brought the news headlines to life.
The state established the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame in 2013 to recognize and honor military veterans who have made a significant contribution to Florida through their years of service. Nine Okaloosa County veterans have been inducted since 2016.
Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs representative Bob Asztalos spoke about the importance of the Veteran’s Hall of Fame. The chamber presented two plaques to Okaloosa County Commissioner Trey Goodwin to display in the county’s two courthouses.
“This is not to recognize the veteran for their military service, it’s their post-military service. It’s for what they did when they came back,” said Asztalos. “It’s incredible to me how veterans will go off to war, will serve this county, will do all of that, and then come back and continue to keep giving. And that is who we are honoring tonight.”
Corcoran concluded by saying, “The quiet professionals that we have here in the Air Force don’t pat themselves on the back very often, and it’s our job to do that.”

We ALL Deserve to Travel! By Jessica Fricke Owner: Travelmation
When I took a step away from my long-term career as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to spend some extra time with my own family back in 2020, I decided to turn my passion (ok, obsession!) for travel into a second career. But my desire to be an advocate for those with autism and other special needs did not diminish one bit! So, my quest became to find a way to combine the two.
Did you know that many families of those with special needs never take get-aways? Studies have indicated that as many as 87% of families with a child diagnosed with autism have never been on a vacation!
Did you also know that the travel industry is trying to change this? The need for ALL families to have the opportunity to experience new and exciting adventures through travel has been recognized, and my colleagues are stepping up! Here’s just some of the ways how:
• The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Studies (IBCCS) has developed the Certified Autism Travel Professional credential for those Travel Agents who have demonstrated the competency and knowledge to assist those with autism and their families in planning travel. Additionally, IBCCS maintains a directory of organizations and facilities that have at least 80% of their employees highly trained in the field of autism. This directory includes MANY travel destinations! Find it here:
https://autismtravel.com/travel-directory/
• Beaches Resorts, a chain of family-friendly all inclusives, is recognized as a Certified Autism Center. The staff at their kids camps and throughout the resorts have been specially trained in areas such as communication, social skills, emotional development and more. Read more about it here:
https://www.beaches.com/all-inclusive/autism-friendly/
• Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has Autism Friendly Sailings with specially trained Adventure Ocean Staff, with many special accommodations available for families. Read more about this here:
https://www.royalcaribbean.com/.../autism-friendly-ships
• Disney World offers a Disability Access Pass (DAS Pass) for those who may have trouble tolerating extended waits in the traditional line. This may include those with autism, ADHD, anxiety and more, depending on specific needs. Read more about this here:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/.../disability-access.../
*note that most other theme parks have similar accessibility options
• Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, FL has staff specially trained in developmental disabilities, dietary modifications and more. Read more about it here:
https://www.tradewindsresort.com/.../special-needs-friendly
• Wings for Autism and Wings for All is an amazing program through The Arc that focuses on helping children with special needs and their families feel more confident in airline travel by allowing a “dress rehearsal” of an airport travel day: check in, going through security, waiting for boarding, and a mock flight to explore the airplane. Check it out here:
https://thearc.org/our-initiatives/travel/
And that’s not all! These are just a few of the many travel options out there. If you have a family member or loved one with special needs, I would be honored to help you consider some of the best vacation options for you.

Physical Education is the most important subject!
by Coach, Tylor Kendall, Owner - Foundations 850, Inc.
As a parent, upon receiving your prized scholar from the school day, don't you get tired of always getting the same response out of "What did you do today?" I usually get the "Nothing" or "Same as everyday " cop-out. However, if you take the question to "What happened at P.E.?", you will likely get a bit more interaction.
Upon being presented with new information, I have become a believer in Physical Education is the most important subject in school curriculum.
With several sources of information coming from internet research, YouTube channels, and personal experience of hosting Physical Education Classes, I would urge you to look into your own trusted sources and see what the science says.
Physical Education Class is the only subject that promotes physical/emotional health. It directly help cognitive function or our ability to learn, and it cultivates character!
With today's high virtual and individual world the physical fitness literacy and today's youth is at a all time low. Statistics "between 30 and 40% of US youth is overweight. This is an astounding and unacceptable fact and the consequences are it is our chronic disease and early death verse a fit lifetime. By the way it is recommended that you get a total of at least 6 hours of rigorous exercise weekly.
Cognition is directly correlated to physical fitness. Studies and science have shown direct impacts of exercise of exercise and brain brain cognition and production. Scientists have been quoted saying that exercise releases "miracle grow" for the brain.
Mental health is also directly affected from exercise. Physical fitness is a natural remedy for anxiety and depression and other social dysfunctions. I can personally attest to this.
Physical education allows you to cultivate character traits that are necessary to survive and Be successful in a highly competitive world. Teamwork, communication, competition, perseverance are just to name a few.
Not to take away the importance of mathematical and scientifical classes or it's or that of our communication patient with writing reading in reading.... But in this perspective there is strong notion to re prioritize what's important. We also must remember that each family is different and has different struggles. Hopefully this information is not meant for you family directly due to all the physical fitness, exercise and sports you get in year round. Thanks!

It's Fall Y'all! By Paul McArthur - Owner: Agape Home Pro
It’s that time of year… Thanksgiving, cooler weather, Black Friday (don’t go!), less
tourists, less traffic, pumpkin spice everything (GROSS!). It’s Fall ya’ll!
My Thanksgiving wish for you…
“May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey be plump. May your potatoes and gravy
have nary a lump. May your yams be delicious, and your pies take the prize, and may
your Thanksgiving dinner stay off your thighs!”
Between crisp, cool mornings and chilly evenings, the start of Fall presents a new set of challenges for home maintenance.
We’re here to help you keep your house in top shape as the temps begin to drop – inside and outside. Weather-wise, fall is the perfect time to give your Florida home a checkup. Staying on top of the little things now can help you to avoid costly damages in the future. And if you follow these fall home maintenance tips, your home will be running more efficiently for
the year. Get Your Roof Checked Out: Have your roof inspected for missing or damaged shingles. High winds, rain and more can cause damage to your roof each year and it’s important to remember that your roof is the first line of defense for your home during
inclement weather.
Examine Your Pool Equipment and Cover: It’s easy to neglect a pool you aren’t using as frequently in the cooler winter months in Florida. Have a reputable pool service company come out and inspect your pool’s equipment to make sure it’s operating properly. If you use a pool cover in the winter, pull it out of storage early to inspect it for rips, tears and any damage that may require replacement.
Get Your HVAC System Serviced: It’s no secret that heating and cooling systems (Yes, we still use A/C in the winter here in Florida!) function more efficiently and last longer when properly serviced each year. Don’t wait for a long holiday weekend to find out your HVAC system needs a repair.
Clean the Gutters: As leaves begin to shed, your gutters will need more attention in the
Fall months. Gutters that are already partially full can fill up quickly. When gutters become too full, water can become backed up in your downspouts. Wood rot and pest issues can also become a problem. Get Your Trees Trimmed: Be sure to trim and branches that are touching your roof or coming into contact with your home. When trees get too close to your home, their branches can become ‘highways’ for rodents and other pests that want to get inside. Branches sitting on or touching your roof can also cause damage during high winds and storms.
Clean Your Dryer: Give your dryer vent and lint trap a thorough cleaning in the Fall. In the winter months, there will be drier air, which means more static electricity. A build-up of lint in your dryer could cause a fire if you’re not regularly cleaning it.
Check Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: This is the perfect time to make sure the batteries are checked before you begin using your fireplace, heating system, and start all that holiday cooking!
Fire Extinguishers: Did someone say holiday cooking?? Be sure your fire extinguishers are in good operating order. And keep on in the kitchen just in case! Seal Windows and Doors: Use weather stripping or caulk to seal windows and doors around your home to keep cold air from getting in so your heating bills stay low. Fertilize Your Lawn and Feed Your Palm Trees: Now that the summer rains have dissipated, the rains won’t wash fertilizer into the waterways where it can harm plants and wildlife. It’s a great time to fertilize citrus trees as well. And, as always, get help if you need it! Home maintenance is not for everyone. No
shame in asking for help!
Be sure to check the Destinites Directory at https://www.destinites.com/local-
directory.html to find a local handyman or contractor.
Have a safe and blessed November and a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! And remember…
If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going
to get.

It’s a great time to fertilize citrus trees as well. And, as always, get help if you need it! Home maintenance is not for everyone. No
shame in asking for help!

to get.
Pressure Washing | A Way to Clean and Keep it Green: By Mercedes Feris Owner: Happy Planet Cleaners
Those that live here love our beaches and want to ensure they stay as clean and emerald green for our future generations, I know I do. My son recently started to help with the business and has decided to do pressuring washing so we researched best practices and cleaning solutions to get the job done right without all the chemicals draining into our ecosystem.
Pressure washing can be a messy job—and dangerous if it isn’t done correctly. It’s important to take the time to adequately prepare.
What You Shouldn’t Pressure Wash
If you’re thinking about power washing siding (or any other painted surface) that was painted before 1978, don’t. Contact a professional power washer instead.Old paint can flake off when pressure washed. Paint from before 1978 may contain lead. Lead paint chips and dust are dangerous when inhaled or accidentally ingested.
Make sure you’re keeping yourself, your family, and your pets safe, first and foremost.
First step is to pick up large particles in the treatment area to avoid them getting stuck in the storm drains.
Select a cleaner that is nontoxic and biodegradable that is safe for our marine life. With all the research I've done vinegar is still the top cleaner along with castile soap. Who would have guessed?? Due to the amount of pressure and heat from the water, it does 85% of the job with no need to use anything else. It is still a good idea to use some sort of cleaning solution to remove bacteria from the surface area.
Next, you'll need to know which type of nozzle you should use as it varies depending on the type of surface you'll be cleaning.
Nozzle Color Coding - Good thing, pressure washer nozzles are universally color-coded. Be sure to test each nozzle on a small surface before starting on a big project..this will help you decide how to use each nozzle.
Here are our tips for getting results you’ll be proud of.
I hope you consider trying it yourself or simply give us a shout! We’ll be happy to give you a quote.

- Move the pressure washer’s wand in an even, up-and-down motion.
- For the most even cleaning, try not to let the spray linger in any one place. As you’re getting the hang of it, you may need to make a couple of passes over the same spot. That’s a much better option than getting too aggressive and damaging the wood.
- Don’t stop the spray in the middle of a board. Wait until you’re at the top or bottom.
- Likewise, don’t start spraying in the middle of a board.
- Use overlapping strokes to avoid visible lines.

Christian Corner: by Patricia Lee
Matthew 5:44
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Why should we do this, you may ask. There are several reasons, but my favorite is how much emotionally stronger you will become for having done so. It is the greatest feeling in the world to pray for someone who has wronged you and get up off your knees knowing in confidence that Father God will take care of it all. Give it to God. It is His burden to carry FOR you. He wants you to trust Him the way you claim you do!
Take pity on those who are trying to harm you, who are jealous of you, who are trying to destroy you or that which you have built. As Taylor Swift says, "Haters gonna hate" so shake it off. Easier said than done but not when you have a close relationship with the Lord. When you can go through life with confidence in His love for you, it becomes easier all the time to pray "for" your enemies and know that God is going to handle them, in a way that will be for your and His best interest.
